mmm, suspect there's a lot missing from that story. Since when did a classic Mini have air conditioning anyway?

I recommend the Bad Obsession YouTube channel. Their classic Mini has aircon.

I think a few of the later ones did, and there have been retro fit kits for a while... I think the Japanese market minis had Aircon for a long time as well....

It does seem that the garage lien law needs revisiting, as it does seem to hand dodgy garages a bid advantage when getting payment for poor work/no work done - perhaps an amendment that the garahe directors are personally liable for repairs etc. If they use lien to demand payment...

Agreed - so many stories of fake or bodged work by garages, but they can get away with it because they hold your car.

Ultimately, trading standards is not the thing people think it is (not sure it ever was to be honest) and legal recourse seems expensive, slow and complex.

However, I can see how the police want to avoid getting into what is ultimately was a civil issue about payments and contract disputes. They are not funded for it.

A decent letter before action and claim for losses against the garage would probably have got the same response as the newspaper person got.
