Bit of a harrowing comment here on the BBC;
Eight people are stuck in the cable car. Six of them are between ten and 16 years old. They are students.
Gulfaraz is not a student, he is 20 years old.
There is also a heart patient in this cable car. He is 16 years old. He has been unconscious for the past two hours, according to Gulfaraz.
We were told this an hour ago by Gulfaraz but his phone is now silent.

Yeah good news that they have all been rescued.
I'll go on any rollercoaster in the world with no fear and have been to some great theme parks through the years.
The only thing that makes me nervous are the cable cars at Alton Towers, hate the blasted things and avoid them where I can.

I've been on the Fuente De in Spain, at the top it's practically being hauled up slowly, vertically. Squeaky bum time.I'll go on any rollercoaster in the world with no fear and have been to some great theme parks through the years.

This is a custom-built cabin. Apparently some use re-purposed car bodies. On the plus side, redundancy worked. 2 support cables; 1 snapped; 1 kept them alive. Here's a Pakistani cable car with only a single cable:

So this one was newsworthy primarily because it was better-engineered than many, leaving people alive to rescue.
On the down side, I don't see much evidence of a safety brakes...
