Concrete fears closing schools.

104 school buildings and other public works are being closed over fears that the steel reinforced air-infused concrete used may be unsafe.

Is this a case of buildings being used beyond their expected replacement time. or the material proving less durable than anticipated?

As far as I am aware this was a widely used building material in many buildings prior to the 1990s, primarily public buildings and not just schools.

The expected lifespan when built is a good question. Why on earth would you build a school with a thirty year expected life?

I think it does affect some public housing built at the time, many of which will now be in private hands. Don't know if any private housebuilders used this stuff, perhaps less need?
