Iceland sparks backlash as it replaces Christian symbol on hot cross buns with tick

https://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/1880056/ic...

'The move comes after research suggested a fifth of customers would prefer the updated decoration.'

So lets appease 20% and annoy the 80% majority?!!

I read that and thought 'why should we care what people in Iceland are doing'....

It was a limited production run of 'tick' buns, sold as a marketing trial product in a few stores, always alongside (not in place of) the cross buns.

Iceland reports sales of hot cross buns up by over 130% thanks to the coverage given by outraged conservative politicians.

Someone in the marketing department earned their salary this week...and Britain's Christian and culinary heritage plods on unchanged and just as relevant as ever.

And culture war conservatives prove once again that they are the most sensitive, emotionally-charged, mountain out molehills, doom-spiralling demographic out there. Not to mention a PR department's greatest asset, it seems.

I've never read anything more disgusting in my entire LIFE.

My grandmother treated me with preserved Wehrmacht rations from WW2 so I've never seen one of these 'buns', but can well imagine how godly Anglo Saxons feel reading this.

By way of balance, ALDI are planning to release a seasonal "Kolin The Ku Klux Klan Katerpillar Kake" to appeal to the sort of person who gets wound up by someone selling a sticky bun with a tick on it.

Was going to comment. No need after that, nothing left to be said.

Sounds great...it'll pick one up along with a 20V cordless impact drill, compact chainsaw and decorative wooden planter...and some milk.

It's always like that - "I only went in for a white-supremacist-themed cake, and came back with a mig-welder, a mole trebuchet and a lovely Aberdeen Angus pizza with a truffle oil drizzle."

In my humble opinion, if it offends some, I suggest they are probably muslums or other egits who have no idea what the cross symbalises, and Iceland are bowing down again to please some of their customers.

But I would say they are offensive, then again.....

On the plus side, looks like the Nike logo, and they will sue the arse off them laugh
