I would have thought it would be very, very difficult to get planning to build anything in a place like that. The Scottish are very strict on planning etc in places like that.

Reminds me of the owners of a local health club (in Scotland) who had being applying for change of use and were continually frustrated by local opposition who wanted it to be some type of local business hub. After a number of failed attempts they let the local press know that they were in advance talks with a potential purchaser who wanted to convert it into a mosque and Islamic centre. Strangely, all the local opposition to their previous application seemed to melt away overnight and it’s now an old people’s home…..

As a former local councillor and member of the planning committee, I did raise a smile at the owners tactics.

Military drills and exercises are great fun in Scotland, let them crack on.

Cold and wet in winter and flea bitten in the summer.

If anything will deradicalise a 20 year old it would be a year there.

I'm clearly no expect, but If it's part of the British Isles, surely it would still be subject to British law and the Sharia aspect of it could only be an addition to that, with any conflict between the two making British law take primacy.

If it's not part of the British Isles, and not a crown dependency but a separate state, then surely it's entirely doomed to failure on account of it then needing trade agreements with UK and immigration to the UK for known extremists might be tricky, if they leave.

This just strikes me as such a bad idea for all involved, that I can't see it happening.

Why would they want a Scottish island anyway?

It'd still be subject to British law, so who gives a st.

Besides, I doubt £3.5m will get them very far in their quest.
