Classic human tale. Over the last 30 years financiers and politicians have pumped accommodation costs to the max without a care for the consequences. What about those people that thought high house prices were great 20 years ago but were too short sighted to see what effect that would have on their kids. Now they've got 20-30 year olds at home staring down the barrel of a 40 year mortgage or 2x the value of the mortgage repayments if they rent.

Yep. If you left uni in 2008 just in time for the GFC aftermath you'll be almost 40 now.

It's already feeding through early years settings - DfE are predicting 300-400 school closures in England alone, 200 odd in Wales, NI and Scotland combined. That's as we stand today, likely to increase according to all indicators. This is all due to falling numbers of children.

Anyhoo imho it's all good as we need to reduce the world population which has grown 4bn in just 50 years. Not sustainable.

Nah dude, You're just having a " weren't our parents lucky bds " rant, this too will pass.

There are other factors why people are having fewer kids, some are happy to forego kids to have financial freedom.

I'm surprised the article doesn't mention housing security. Being unable to afford your own home has become the new normal but the private rented sector is ruinously expensive and offers no long term security. Hardly a set-up that would encourage you to start a family!
