Man arrested after secret filming
Discussion
Ive seen these videos pop up on Facebook and Instagram, there disgusting! But I wouldn't have thought that its actually illegal? I'm surprised the police took the time to investigate, on the basis of whats posted to social media. obviously the further evidence, will hopefully lead to a conviction.
Well done to the police for taking it seriously. hopefully they will look into these creeps further as i doubt its only one person doing it as theres more of these videos out there!
the comments under them are sickening as well.

The police statement confirms what we all believe, namely ‘filming in public is not illegal, but any associated harrassment is’
As I read it the police were sent the videos from social media. And only found the other stuff, once they investigated. Maybe this particular video was different but the ones I've seen before are filmed on busy high streets. And wouldn't be illegal in my understanding unless there is something around it being posted to social media without consent ? DaveCWK said:
I remember these vids - he basically filmed drunk people walking on the streets on a night out. Be very surprised if it constitutes harassment or if he is actually convicted of anything.
Fingers crossed with the other videos they've found in this guy's possession he will get in convicted. DaveCWK said:

"GMP said officers had found other content "locked under paywalled accounts which included footage of suspected non-consensual nudity and upskirting" in the course of the investigation."From the news article…
We also have this, which is clearly beyond the pale.

So, not arrested for the filming by my reading of this, and my (very layman’s!) understanding is that there’s no expectation of privacy in a public place and you can film who you like as long as you’re not also harassing them. We also have this, which is clearly beyond the pale.

Bit creepy.
Man arrested after secret filming shared on TikTok
I wonder what this means for the Daily Mail and similar rags who often do the "revellers on a night out" articles.

From what I saw about the arrest is that the guy was purposely filming upskirts and public nudity ( I assume girls going commando) and then selling access to those videos through a paywalled site.
it is the upskirting that will quite rightly get him in trouble
If it's the clips relating to the person mentioned in the news months ago then he seemed to have a GoPro-type camera strapped to his chest (presumably hidden) and was wandering around in busy areas in the summer when people were out at night very lightly dressed. I didn't watch enough to see if he specifically waited around and filmed people who had fallen over or exposed themselves etc. but I imagine that he did.it is the upskirting that will quite rightly get him in trouble
I think if the same person was filmed on two separate occasions but without specific intent to film that person then it might be tricky to prove as a "court of conduct" which amounts to harassment? Stalking would be even less likely unless he was following or waiting for a very specific person.

Yes I did read the article.' in the course of the investigation' I read that as, they initially started the investigation of the back of the publicly available videos which from what I've seen aren't illegal, disgusting but unfortunately not illegal. That's what I'm intrigued by.
Even stated that in my OP

Let’s say it straight. This bloke is a pervert and is getting off on filming random women who are dressed without much clothing go out and are a bit drunk. It’s to humiliate them and objectify them. Degrade them even.
Now I’m a red blooded male. I’ve checked out women before on nights out - and I’ll do it again. But I wouldn’t dream of going out with the sole purpose to record women to shame or humiliate them. I also don’t really get why anyone would want to watch it.
And I can see why it’s staking and harassment. In my old house we had security cameras which linked to our phone. Me and my ex had an argument when I insisted I was removing myself from the system. She wanted me to stay on for security reasons. Basically it gives alerts and I work nights. But I felt it was invasive and I shouldn’t see who was coming and going. I also didn’t want to know. If I took footage of say a man coming back and sent it to her friends to embarrass her I’d expect to be arrested for harassment. So why is this different?
