80k for a rebrand at Southampton city council
Discussion
Is this sort of thing the norm?

That sounds cheap to me compared to rebrands in the corporate world.
Do we expect the marketing agency that did this to do it for free?
Rebrands have many purposes and are often attributed to growth and repositioning. Not commenting on this specific rebrand as I don't know the details, but this doesn't seem bad to me overall.

I see stories like this all the time. £80k will not be 'for a logo' as the headline suggests.https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/24797596.southamp...

£80k for a rebranding project is pretty small fry in reality.
Branding I literally my business so for once I've got some actual knowledge on an issue :-)
The branding is the least of Southampton’s problems.
Honestly I really don’t know why they bother.
Most of the time people couldn’t pick their current home town, city or council’s logo out of a line up of 3 potential ones.
I’m struggling to think what my council’s looks like as I type this.

Branding is not just a logo, I don't know anything about this project by the way but just pointing out that there's more to it.Honestly I really don’t know why they bother.

why does a city need a brand????
pointless waste of money
Its the council not ‘a city’.pointless waste of money
The city has a different brand for tourism.

Both the council and ‘the city’ need branding for different reasons.

They don't, it's a vanity act by the councillors and a waste of tax payers money. They obviously have too much so no doubt they'll be reducing council tax
