Well she has been cast as him… sorry them / it

Probably not a big deal seeing as I’m agnostic anyway, but the cynic in me says it’s stunt casting to whip up controversy.

When we were kids and the musical was in all the news we changed the lyrics to "Jesus Christ superstar. Walks like a woman and wears a bra"

They'd be missing a trick if they didn't use that.

I think this is an important part of the article linked to:

"Some fans pointed out that the role in the famous rock opera musical which has been running since 1971, has always featured a racially diverse cast."

If memory serves, he also came round a corner on his Yamaha. Pulled a skid and killed a kid. Tragic stuff.

Perhaps they should turn it into a biker movie. hehe

It's not even the first time she'll have been in a production of that musical with a female Jesus.

This version, 3 years ago, featured an all female cast. Including another Wicked actress in it. Shame the new one doesn't seem to include Morgan, who also has an amazing voice.

I'm trying to think where the controversy might come from.

I suppose if you were a devout Christian you might be offended at your Lord being represented by a black woman? Would it be considered mockery or blasphemy?

Does she look Jewish? 'Cause if not, that's just as non-conformist.

I used to go to methodist children's church and there were displays of the passion from various parts of the world. The most notable factor was that the ethnic appearance of the lead always reflect the country of origin. Although not a believer in any non-fact-based belief system, I thought it showed a strength. If we accept the (unproven) existence of a son of god, then ethnicity should be universal.

I thought it was a rock opera?

i.e. you walk in there expecting to be entertained rather than expecting full on accuracy?
