There was a huge garda presence at the Co Wexford port on Tuesday evening as the Stena Nordica docked. Gardai were also joined by several members of the National Ambulance Service, creating what was described by onlookers as a “ring of steel" around the port.

It is believed that the captain of the ferry, which travelled across the Irish Sea from Fishguard, made an emergency call for assistance after an apparent violent incident on board as the ferry approached Rosslare.

My bet it's something to do with certain types that have a big presence in Rathkeale, Co Limerick

No the IROI police are like the GB Police, unarmed but with Armed Response units

It’d be a tad concerning - but not at all surprising, from experience of other routes - if passengers were able to get weapons through security.

There's a big traveller feud ongoing atm I wouldn't be surprised if two opposing groups of travelers have been on the ferry and it's kicked off

No experience, but is there any security on a car ferry to Ireland? There's never been anything when I've been on them to France.

Its been years since I have been on a ferry but what security is there on entry? Metal detectors? Scanners? Pat down?

Mostly intelligence I guess with random searches at departure ports.

Been back and forward through Scotland and Wales many times on buses, cars and vans. I've been pulled over for random searches the odd time and many years ago had the sniffer dog through the car carry on while leaving Holyhead in my trade in to buy an M3 in Halifax.

A man has been released from custody without charge following the discovery of a woman's body on board a ferry yesterday evening.

Not to speak ill of the dead, but who realistically would commit suicide on a cross channel ferry? I mean, isn’t that just the most unlikely of scenarios? I’m so depressed I want to top myself, but I’ll wait until I’ve booked a ticket on an occasional sea crossing I make with the family.
