How about starting by the government taxing the mega corps that off shore their tax affairs such that they pay a pittance in comparison to the in country revenue generated.

That would be a good start.

Then not having strategic infrastructure privately operated so that profit comes before reinvestment.

Always made me snigger that pledge, given how much gas and electric have gone up and continue to do so and likely by much more come 2030, it's a bit of a nonsense claim!

Anyhow I wonder how a "high earner" will be defined, anyone earning higher than minimum wage is my guess!

Band C council tax or paying 40/42% tax probably, so £50k in England/Wales/NI, £43k in Scotland. It’s a silly idea, but not without precedent given the way unmetered water is calculated.

- Income tax
- Water rates (based on RV of hour house)
- Council Tax

Bad choice of name, as this as well as other "progressive" taxes don't encourage people to "progress", but rather stay below the threshold, as the next one taxes more.

If this gets pushed through, I won't bother paying the mortgage off and will get a full solar and battery install in a couple years time.

How about pay for what you use, the current standing charge/unit rate charging isn't fair as it is. As it penalises low energy users.

With 25% of the population classifying themselves as disabled at this rate they'll be coming for the pensioners.
