Four killed after a cable snapped. I went on this one about 20 years ago with my parents. It looked dodgy but you just assume these things are tested and have safety systems in place.

And in 2018 the bridge in Genoa collapsed. They need to sort this stuff out.

Happy to use cable cars/ lifts in decent ski resorts in Italy ; other than that i’d give them a miss.

We’re down here now on a school trip. Nothing to do with it but the limited drip feed breaking news on the bbc was enough to terrify a couple of parents before we saw what had happened and could text home. As others have suggested, it’s one of those “I’m sad, but not overly surprised” sort of things…

The Emirates ( or whatever it’s currently called ) over the Thames terrifies me, no chance I’m getting on an ancient, ropey looking version in a foreign land. Very sad all the same, in mainland western Europe you’d expect to be safe.

At least it wasn’t a cowboy in a Yank aircraft this time, hopefully…
