Jeremy Vine has said he will no longer post videos of his encounters with motorists while cycling because of the level of online abuse he receives - saying "it did get to me"

...

"Car driving is a religion in this country," he said, adding "if you say anything that runs counter, that's what you get."

...

Last week he told broadcaster Gaby Roslin's podcast "all the people who are not getting enough sex lock themselves in small metal boxes and drive around London" when describing his experiences in the capital.

"That's fundamentally what's going on in our society," he added.

Oh no, not sure how I'll live without more videos of him spotting danger a mile off, then purposefully cycling right into it whilst screaming they haven't seen him then blocking everyone who points out he instigated it.

Car drivers make mistakes all the time, anticipation and a sense of self preservation are crucial for every cyclist - Vine is absolutely lacking in both these qualities.

And anyone who wears a camera to try and capture these interactions is deserving of contempt.

Does that go for dash cams as well...?

As someone who cycles a lot, good. He's annoying. Car brains are absolute morons on the road, but this does nothing but antagonise people.

If they have a dashcam for the purposes of uploading the footage for clicks then almost invariably yes it does.

Not all motorists are psychopaths, similarly cyclists. People who seek to highlight and publicise honest stupidity on the roads as a personal crime against them are borderline narcissists. I'm not sure why the rather superior Vine doesn't spend his time spreading tolerance instead.

I would think Vine gets most of his online abuse because he's an irritating tit. If he wants the abuse to stop, there are very simple solutions.

Agreed. I've got a dashcam on both cars and have experienced st driving in both, but unless the footage is required for a claim, I don't hit that save button and carry on with my day.

Seems to cover it comprehensively.

The clips I've seen of his riding (uploaded by him, of course!) indicated he's an absolute liability with no sense of self preservation.

Funnily enough I cycle round Glasgow all the time and near misses are infrequent. Like one or two a year. I have also cycled in San Francisco and LA with no problems. Perhaps if he gets problems every few rides he is the problem?

This. If you believe the local press, my town hates cyclists and is actively trying to kill us with piss-poor infrastructure etc. Yet I cycle all the time (commute to the station), and often with the kids in the summer for leisure, and the only harm that I've come to in the last 10 years is when another cyclist (mature lady, no lights, at night) rode in to the side of me and knocked me off my bike. For my sins, I wasn't wearing a helmet (rare for me), and ended up with a gash on the side of my head pissing blood for the rest of my journey home.

Vine should be banned from cycling. He's a liability to himself and others
UK could introduce cyclist licenses for public highways.

No, that is certainly not the answer.

He did bait Joey Barton into losing a libel case, so let's remember the good Vine did too!

With some of them, yes. If you need 3 working days to react to a situation, then it's probably time to get some learning done!

The licence test is just an entire page with only one question: Are you Jeremy Vine?

Had to listen to him just now blathering on about Canada v Trump and the Canadian election.

Vine (pushing for anti-Trump rhetoric) to live person in Canada:
"I've heard it said living in Canada next to Trump's America is like living in an apartment block above a meth lab"
Canadian:
"No, that's rubbish"

He does invite his own downfall somewhat.
