I don’t know too much about Claudia Sheinbaum, the President of Mexico but she seems to be the absolute opposite of Trump: highly educated (PhD in Physics), eloquent, positive, inclusive, encouraging and focused on making Mexico great by getting all Mexicans, rich and poor, men and women, to work together. I really like listening to her speeches. Calming and uplifting. Only time will tell whether her policies succeed. Probably more difficult with Trump’s trade sanctions.

Sadly being highly educated does not always equal being intelligent, when I worked at the University of Nottingham there were lots of very highly educated people working there, most of them didn't have a bean of common sense to share between them.

What are her polices and how does she expect to achieve them?

You're not wrong laugh

I have a mate still from school days who is the most egg headed person I've ever met

He's now a senior professor at a Ivy League university in the States

He is completely devoid of any common sense and I wouldn't trust him to cross a road on his own

He's also the most clumsy person I've ever met .. guaranteed to send a table full of pints crashing if you're in the pub

But he is very highly educated and is a published expert in his field and yet in many ways as thick as mince !

Don't confuse education with wisdom. I mean, just look at our current Labour party!

Is that actual educational achievements or what they put on the CV?. Rachel Reeves may not be a particle physicist.

Okay, 'cabinet of PHds taken at random but chosen in their specialism' versus current Labour cabinet? I'd probably go with PHds .. but of course you can get some complete loons who are highly educated!

If she's got the usual PH suspects that riled up, she must be good.

The fact is I suspect they've never heard of her before.

I find that some people who clearly have no knowledge of her are quick to try to claim she's dumb... Weird.

Kind of like "I'm not book smart, I'm street smart" which really means "I'm not real smart, I'm pretend smart".

She's not a nobody in Mexico, previously head of the City of Mexico government and mayor of it's borough before then (Tlalpan).

She took over the Morena party from the previous president AMLO (Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador) and won the election with the highest majority since 1982 so obviously the Mexicans weren't unhappy with the direction of Morana.

She seems popular in Mexico with 81% responding positively in a poll conducted by El Financiero (a CDMX based paper covering, you guessed it, finance and business news). Seems Mexicans also think she's her own leader and not being controlled by AMLO.

I suspect it's at least in part the Trump effect. Everyone Trump tries to fight gets a huge boost in their home countries. Mark Carney in Canada, Petro in Colombia, Albo in Australia.

I don't think anyone has put her down because of her PhD. More the OP said she has a PhD and Trump hasn't as if it having a PhD automatically makes someone better [for any job]. Clearly that isn't true. I'm sure you'd be the last person to sing praises about Alice Wiedel because she has a PhD.

She isn’t intelligent because she has a PhD…she has a PhD because she is intelligent. Physics is one of the hardest subjects to study at university.

Trump is not stupid because he isn’t highly educated…just listen to him speak and look at what he has done in the last three months…he is stupid because he is an idiot. He makes Forrest Gump look like an intellectual.

Personally I think our leaders should be the smartest (or at least one of the smartest) person in the room.

Sheinbaum seems to have plenty of other qualities though as she managed to win the presidency (as the first woman) and is very popular in Mexico.

I think our leaders should be the best leaders. A politician needs different skills and knowledge than a scientist.

Being intelligent is not a sufficient condition to be a good president, but it is necessary. Being head of a government and a country requires you to be able to understand briefings from experts (no one can be an expert themselves in all areas), assess what course of actions would be best and make balanced, reasoned and calculated decisions.

You don’t need to be a genius to be a great President, it’s actually probably better not to be one. You do need to know to sorround your self with excellent advisors that are experts in their field though.

You probably need more social skills than PhD skills. Highly academic people, although intelligent do not make good leaders as sometimes fail to see the big picture.

As for Trump, not a fan at all but he is not dumb… that’s the mistake most people make about him… he us corrupt and self serving but not dumb…

Quite!

Intelligence is defined as knowing what you don't know and seeking to take measures to fill in the gaps.

Stupidity is defined as not knowing what you don't know, not caring and carrying on regardless.

I know which trait I'd prefer in country leaders.

You're right, he isn't. Similarly Boris Johnson was not a 'buffoon'. The adjectives that applies to them are 'clever' and 'naive'.
