Spain's Ministry of Social Rights has asked the country's prosecutor's office to investigate Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal after he reportedly hired people with dwarfism to perform at his 18th birthday party.

Lamine Yamal hosted a party on Sunday at a rented property in Olivella, a small town 50 kilometres north west of Barcelona, with guests including YouTubers, influencers, and several Barcelona team-mates.

It is alleged Lamine Yamal hired a group of entertainers with dwarfism, something the Association of People with Achondroplasia and other Skeletal Dysplasias in Spain (ADEE) described as "unacceptable in the 21st century".

When contacted by BBC Sport, the Directorate General for People with Disabilities - part of the Ministry of Social Rights, ConsumerAffairs, and 2030 Agenda - said: "ADEE has filed a legal complaint.

"Therefore, this Directorate General has asked the Prosecutor's Office to investigate to determine whether the law and, therefore, the rights of people with disabilities have been violated."
BBC said:
However, Spanish radio station RAC1, external broadcast an interview with someone claiming to be one of the entertainers present at the party who defended Lamine Yamal.

"No-one disrespected us, we worked in peace," said the artist, who asked to remain anonymous.

"I don't understand why there's so much hype. We're normal people, who do what we want, in an absolutely legal way.

"We work as entertainers. Why can't we do it? Because of our physical condition?

"We know what our limit is and we will never exceed it: we are not fairground monkeys."

The performer said it lasted one hour, and afterwards the entertainers joined in with the party.

First thing that came to mind was the opening scene from The Wolf of Wall Street.

So it's not acceptable to hire "entertainers with dwarfism".

Has anyone told the "entertainers with dwarfism"? Their business model seems flawed.

Sounds a lot like someone getting offended on behalf of others being 'exploited', not like it's the first time such a thing has happened.

There's been very very similar arguments before between those upset over something involving people with dwarfism that they saw as disrespectful, and those with dwarfism just wanting to do a job that was open to them.

It appears no one was abused or coerced or in anyway doing anything except the job they signed up for and were perfectly willing to have.

Guess it's easy to take a moral stance when it's not your income being affected.

Another article reported that one of the performers said they were not Happy! To which Yamal responded, which one are you then?

We had that back in 2022 when Peter Dinklage had a go about it with a couple of others tagging on for the ride.

Others disagreed with him on the basis that it was easy for him to have a go as he had plenty of work and it wasn't his job that was being cancelled.

Nothing surprises me any more. A bunch of little people have a nice little (none intended) earner, nobody forced them to do it, and now someone gets offended on their behalf.

So dwarfs are now not allowed to work? How's that fair.

The biggest hypocrites are people like Dinklage who are happy to be exploited if they're the one getting paid, but whinge about other people getting a go in one of the most common acting roles open to them.

You're not helping by dictating what others are allowed to do based on your own morals. See also (for example) certain self-contradicting feminists who like to tell other women what they should be allowed to do.

It would be more reasonable to be offended if actors of normal height were cast as the 7 dwarves. No pleasing some people.

Weird how they don't seem bothered by the "women with 'specific breast dimensions were paid to attend" part of the party if the reporting is true.

People always want to ban other people's jobs. Their own jobs, not so much.

They've managed to put young women out of work if it involves things like promo work if they happen to be scantily clad.

Now they're moving onto dwarfism.

Is the end goal to put everyone who fits into a marginalised group out of work unless the work is acceptable to them.
