BBC said:
A Lamborghini driver caught speeding at 140mph (225kmph) has been temporarily banned from driving.

Fred McKennon, 60, of Elmstead Road, Colchester, Essex, was clocked by officers doing speed checks on the A120 dual carriageway at Takeley, near Stansted Airport, in January.

When they caught up with him they noticed he had illegal tinted front windows. The car was seized under anti-social driving legislation, said police.

McKennon appeared at Basildon Magistrates' Court and was banned from driving for 56 days and received three penalty points on his licence for the tinted windows.
Okay, who is going to own up?

I thought if you got caught doing over 100mph you got banned for a year. Only 56 days for 140mph? That’s not bad at all.

I think it's punishment enough that people know you've bought a Urus. He probably thought he could remain anonymous if he tinted the windows. hehe

Nope dont think it ever has been a year - I think 100+ is *usually* a ban, but not a year. 56 is normally the max they can give out.
They can do longer bans but not just for speeding, IIRC.

That is a great road though.

Isn’t it better to face a short ban than points? Or is that a myth?

There is no maximum and the speeding sentencing guideline says this:

“Where an offender is driving grossly in excess of the speed limit the court will consider a disqualification in excess of 56 days.”

140 mph is 2x the speed limit and 70 mph over the speed limit. That’s “grossly in excess of the speed limit” in my opinion.

Definitely not a myth in my case. I had 6 points on my licence and then got done at a 6-point speed. My choice was a 1 year ban under totting up rules, or go to court, plead guilty and beg for forgiveness. Got a big fine and a 17 day ban instead.

Ironically I'd spent ages driving like an absolute angel knowing I had the first 6, then just one overtake on a motorbike at exactly the wrong time right in front of a copper with a speed gun. Still, got me bang to rights.

I do have a fully clean licence now!

According to the BBC article PC Matthew Mehen said:
Speeding at this level is completely unacceptable and shows a reckless disregard for safety.

Excessive speed dramatically reduces a driver's ability to react to changing road conditions and shortens braking distances.
Never knew that.

Not a bad result for that speed. I'm sure i've seen people do similar speeds and end up doing short jail sentences.

Can a Urus stop from 140mph to 0 faster than any run of the mill car can stop from 70mph?

I know you know this but the car and it's braking capabilities are rarely the main factor in stopping distances, even with anti lock brakes.

What is this legislation? Whatever it is is probably being misused anyway, as why straight speeding on a dual carriageway anti-social. And if it is, what is the point where it occurs? 90, 100, 110?

It’s all laid down in legislation
Illegal tints - 56 days
4D plates - 90 days
BO55 plates - 120 days
Combine those with speeding while vaping and it’s a custodial sentence.

I told my brief I preferred a ban rather than points which would stay with me for 4/5(?) years. The prosecuting lawyer was moaning that I couldn't choose the penalty hehe , but I did get my 6 weeks ban (SP30 on my license I think?), a hefty fine, and the train home!!

Seems very lenient. It doesn't mention fines however, and yes, his renewal conversation will be interesting.

I'm near the M23 and a chap in a mclaren got a huge fine and a 6 month ban for 130ish recently. I suppose if plod label it dangerous then the court can get the big book to throw, but I recall a high speed *on its own* is not enough to be dangerous (irrespective of what brake say)
