I really enjoy reading and watching Steve Rosenberg’s reports.
I’m fascinated by how he manages to interview Putin and Peskov etc, asking quite direct questions and getting answers.
He is very clever in that he knows just how far to go. If he holds back to much then his interview is meaningless, if he is too aggressive he will never get an interview again and likely be kicked out of Russia.
There must be great respect for him amongst the ruling Russians.
In the interview below, despite the fact that Steve is fluent in Russian it is conducted in English. Peskov has demonstrates very good English but this is rare as there is always a fear of mis quoting/understanding.

Rosenberg is tolerated because they recognise he is the BBC voice in Moscow. He pushes the limits because he has that role. It’s quid pro quo. I like him especially when they give him time against Putin, but make no mistake it’s a relationship that Moscow controls.

What I can summarise at this point is that Russia is fighting:

- To capture Kiev.
- To fight Nazis/Azov.
- To fight an existential threat.
- To fight NATO.
- To create a multipolar world.

Everything is clear.

He's brilliant. I have no idea how he's still free. He must have a pretty good understanding of what he can get away with.

Compared to next to usless China reporters whom are as good manging their relationships with the Party as Starmer is keeping control of Labour, Steve is an absolute 100% legend.

I do worry for him though, stange mysterious illnesss are common in authoritarian states.......

Yes. And the "rules" seem unclear and fluid. So one day you can be the right side of the line. The next day you're victim of a mysterious accident.

He is very clever, somehow managing to not cross the line that Sarah Rainsford, his predecessor, crossed.
