"The judge, Mr Justice Saini, said she falsely believed her daughter was better off dead after suffering under a "bad mother"."

Had numerous miscarriages etc over the years but when she finally had a lovely little girl, thought this.

Very sad.

That is so sad. Not sure what good 4 years in prison will do. Prison is not going to help recovery from mental illness.

It is but a prison with some monitoring might help. Maybe a swift move to an open prison where she can also work, engage with society and maybe get the help she needs. Open prisons are not a luxury but possibly a good place for her.

Sorry. But she drowned a baby. My daughter is 2. If my ex wife drowned her I'd not be impressed with 4 years at all.

We live in a fairly soft liberal society. I'm a soft leftist. But she killed her child.

After the breakdown of my marriage and other stuff I was on antidepressants. If I then went and killed someone, it's not an excuse - I should be locked up or be in a secure unit until I'm safe to be around people.

Mental health isn't an excuse to go around murdering and killing.

I hope you are right. Though from everything you hear nowadays prisons are stretched and rehabilitation is not the priority it should be.

True but someone at least monitoring her meds and help her get some work, etc. At least in an open prison she could access additional resources outside.

Not sure being in a cell 23/hrs a day would do anything for her in terms of punishment or rehabilitation.

Completely agree with this sentiment, as a father myself of two girls and having gone through the loss of a child too, in addition to having close family members who have suffered with mental health I can't have sympathy for this woman who killed her daughter, for me she should have been given a longer sentence.
