COLD WEATHER HEALTH ALERT

It's the middle of November. It's starting to turn cold. Do we really need a health alert to tell us it's turning cold?

It's the time of year when the simple folk block up all the ventilation then do sad faces when the mould appears and they develop respiratory issues. So yes, a health alert is wise.

It's gone from unseasonably mild to pretty cold especially first thing in the space of a few days.

Lovely walk down to Boots to get my flu jab. A bit crisp but beautiful sunshine. I don’t get this immediate panic by some when it gets a bit nippy.

Usual "Arctic Conditions" headlines... I think it would do good to send all the media to the actual Arctic (perhaps one way) for a few days, it certainly won't be 3 degrees, light frost with gusts of 11mph.

Aren’t the health alerts issued to trigger plans for health agencies to be activated if needs be.

It’s not aimed at the wider public.

It was 3 degrees this morning but a beautiful crisp sunny day which is much better than the recent rainy weather that we’ve been having.

A forecast is helpful, albeit they haven’t been very accurate lately. It does grate a bit when it’s called an alert.

The alert isn't to tell the public to get their big coat out. It's to invoke systems and processes for dealing with the weather.
