US plans to start checking all tourists' social media | US News | Sky News https://news.sky.com/story/us-plans-to-start-check...

Reading this and knowing half of Scotland intends to visit the US for the World Cup I'm wondering at what point should fans be worrying about their posts.
If I look at my own posts I'm not particularly political but I have shared some funny Anti Trump stuff and anti gun stuff.
I've also been involved in discussions on motorbike groups about how easy it was to outrun Police Granadas and Rovers in the early eighties and how scary it was in the late 80s and early 90s when 24v Senators, Volvo T5 Estates and Sierra Cosworths hit the fleet and they started giving big bikes a run for their money.
Am assuming that stuff would be fine and what Border Control are looking for is proper dodgy near terroristic sort of stuff but, at present, you just don't know.

I've got a mate on facebook who pretty much every other day posts an anti-trump message. No idea what he's hoping to achieve but the lack of critique of what happens in the far east suggests virtue signaling.

Why don't you ask him what he's hoping to achieve and whether he thinks he should post messages against other countries ignoring human rights, like China and Israel.

Open a Twitter account.

Follow Stephen Miller's account and no one else.

You'll get the red carpet rolled out.

As long you're white.

That is all that's required in the land of "free speech". The white skin is the important bit - so most scots will be OK, unless they get rejected for being too blue hehe

including email addresses

Like all sane people, I use the phone to generate one time address for lots of websites. Do they want _all_ of them?

Probably AI, and they already do - friends of ours son got a scholarship to play basket ball at a US uni.
During his visa application process his FB account was scrutinised and the US authorities noted a post by lads family which criticised Trump - was asked to remove the post or visa not granted - which he did.

I think you may well have uncovered the vetting process.

I did wonder how Mr Free Speech Musk would feel about social media post being shared with the government.. But I guess all good if the order comes from Mr Mango.

They can only check on what you give them.

You say "I have no social media accounts"
And give them a new gmail account.

Or you create an Instagram account and upload 5 photos of your dog and declare that just to make it less obvious.

Ps. This assumes you are not stupid enough to use your real full name on anything online.

It is only a proposal at the moment.

But I can imagine the people who are turned on by this will be the loudest.

I also hope that Labour do a reciprocal deal to review all Americans social media / email / phone numbers/ relatives details to ensure there isn't any anti British / Government / Labour / Keir Starmer comments in their stuff.

Not exactly practical, is it?

But I suspect they dont actually care about social media content, but it's a neat, handy excuse to refuse entry to persons "not on a list at all, honest"

Y'know, "randon checks"

I think I've got old enough to not bother engaging with people who just post grr Trump posts on facebook.
