The BBC had a documentary by David Olusoga which suggested a Beachy Head Roman era skeleton was of a person who originated from Africa. The first black Briton.

Turns out from DNA analysis that she was white with blonde hait.

This case aside I think there is a huge amount of guesswork involved in these "reconstructions". You only have to look at the vast differences one living person can make by losing or gaining weight or changing hairstyles.

Agreed - they are simply an artistic interpretation of what someone ‘might’ have looked like. Nothing more.

Some seem like your next door neighbour and others make me think Frankenstein is an Adonis in comparison.

Be interesting if they could create a 3d print of a living persons skull and pass it to the reconstruction experts and see how close a match they actually get to the living persons appearance.

Why would they have to do it twice?
