There’ll be more than a few Labour MPs looking at an uncomfortable time with their constituents with this news. And with the various representative and lobby groups. Quite the hornets nest to poke.

I’m aware the beeb mention it was a manifesto pledge.

Probably not in overall terms.

But if you assume multiple briefs can be worked on concurrently I'd expect it's up there for whoever has the animal welfare brief.

That was my feeling too. If it doesn't suit the definition of a Labour voter's pastime, ban it! I have no axe to grind on the trail hunting subject, in fact I couldn't care less either way. I do disapprove of fox hunting as it was practised, but as so few foxes were actually killed it didn't figure highly in my priority list - cruel though it was.

I'm tired of their violence, abuse and gang-like behaviour.

Generational farms being lost ... because of 'toffs' who grow our food.

Small businesses struggling due to high employment costs and punitive employment laws... because of 'toffs' who are growing the economy.

Fewer private schools and more pressure on struggling state schools... because of 'toffs' who are not on benefits.

Fewer rental properties (and higher rental prices) due to protections being removed from landlords .... etc etc

Or at the very minimum, make it a legal requirement for the method of slaughter to be labelled.

Fox population has halved since the hunting ban. Very little of this relates to the welfare of the species.

This is because gamekeepers have access to effective lethal measures of control (especially thermal and night vision) that weren't available before.

In addition keepers in hunt country now target foxes when before they were left for the hunt which is an unbelievably inefficient method of 'vermin' control.

I don't think they'll ban game shooting, I think they'll tie it up in so much regulation people will give up. Lead ban, shotgun certification and limits/regualtions of game bird release already having an impact.

Fishing is an odd one - probably the most cruel of all the fieldsports. The quarry is mostly domesticated ie. raised in captivity and released into a controlled environment; stick a spike in the quarry's face; drag it around until exhausted and then let it go so someone else can do the same thing. Not insignificant mortality from being caught even if recovered and released.

I shoot and fish so not having a go at anglers. Just pointing to the cowardice and hypocrisy of politicians.
