Andy Burnham has just confirmed he’s running for MP which I think is a sure signal he’s got his eyes on the top job. Do you think he’s got what it takes?

No doubt Reform will go big for this seat. Burnham seems well respected in Manchester though, be interesting to see how badly damaged the Labour brand is

I wonder if the best thing for him, long term, is to not get selected?

If he stands he'll be a shoe in because all the people who don't rate Starmer will vote for him jist to cause trouble.

Would be very controversial for him to not be selected. There would be plenty of accusations that Starmer is blocking him because he’s scared.

Starmer hasn’t been great at PR though, I wouldn’t put it past him

George Galloway has already said he will stand if Burnham does and if Hypnotits stands too that will give Reform a much better chance with 3 left-wing candidates vying for votes.

Burnham can hang on to that even if he becomes an MP.

So how does this work does he have to stand down as mayor to run?

Or can he run and if he loses he carries on as mayor?

And if he wins can he carry on as mayor?

I assume he won't even if it's allowed but I don't know if it's allowed.

I grew up in Gorton in the 60's, and used to live in Denton, very interested to see how this pans out.

I think he could eventually be the next Labour leader.

Galloway, Zak and Burnham - with a rainbow coalition like that who needs enemies.

Reform and the Tory's should sit it out and buy popcorn by the ton.

Boris was an MP and mayor of London for a year.
