44 years ago today the House of Commons met for an emergency Saturday sitting to debate the invasion of the Falkland Islands by Argentina. Listening to the speeches by politicians of the day, party leaders Margaret Thatcher and Michael Foot showed how politics should be. Are we ever likely to see grown up politics again?

Listen to Margaret Thatcher's commons speech and to John Nott's statement to the House of Commons.

Unlikely.

MSM is also different now. More interested in picking holes, intruding into their personal lives and knocking politicians down than supporting them and the Country.

And every voting idiot now has a mouthpiece via social media.

I've often said it, why would anyone with intelligence want to be a politician these days?

The Foreign Sec Lord Carrington resigned for failing to see the invasion coming

The Defence Sec John Nott offered his resignation too but it was declined by Thatcher

Most history overlooks how grim things were for Thatcher immediately before the Argies helped her out and invaded the Falklands.

Because if they play the game they'll make the right contacts to make themselves quite wealthy when they leave politics,if not before

You've made at least two threads about it and were the main contributor to the day by day thread. Do you have a personal connection to it or just interested?
