I try not to post anything too political but this looks like madness to me.

I can only surmise that the Greens are being paid by Labour to be so utterly bonkers that it makes Labour look competent, rational and reasonable. I know it’s always been a case of voting for the least st option but things continue to sink to new depths.

I think they very much know their target audience and produce these soundbites to appeal accordingly, much like Reform but at the opposite end of the spectrum

They’ll be a fair few left wing racing fans. How will they feel about their sport being banned?

They're not 'racing fans', they're gamblers. As long as they something to wager on they won't give a st.

A full ban is certainly an out-there radical suggestion, though I don't understand why there's any attempt to paint such a policy as being intellectually inconsistent with the GP's wider platform (that's insincere - I entirely understand why; "naive, silly Billy lefties," etc...)

That said, I could get behind an effort to regulate jump racing and make it less of a bloodbath; the industry doesn't seem to appreciate how bad the "little green tent" optics are.

I actually agree with this.

Never thought I'd support a Green policy

I used to go fairly regularly, until I became educated as to the reality of the cruelty involved.

I wouldn't support a ban per se. People need to decide for themselves.

Me too. Having a sport where 90% is betting related is daft enough but through in a bit of animal cruelty and what’s the point?

Me three, can we not just bet on people running, or cars or something.

Horse racing IS gambling. Without the gambling there would be no horse racing.

It does seem odd we're banning greyhound racing, but horse racing is still acceptable.

I'm in total agreement for banning horse racing. I'd ban boxing too, but at least the clowns in the ring have a choice in the matter.

Surely if they’re legalising class A drugs then we could still have horse racing, it would just be in a very different format?

200 horses die annual due to racing in the UK.

40,000+ deer are killed or injured by cars in the UK each year.

Should we ban cars to protect the animals?

What about the killing of animals for food?

Just trying to work out where the line is.

For me, anything that deliberately causes pain or suffering of animals should be banned and we should do all that is reasonable to reduce/prevent their suffering otherwise.

So I would ban fox hunting but would allow horse/greyhound racing (and ensure high standards are kept).
