Why can't we just buy American or Russian fuel for now till this all gets sorted out? Is that too simple?

Russia doesn't have a big jet aviation refinery base.

USA and China do, but will both be very protective of their existing supplies and have limited ability to scale to meet European demand.

A thread here https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... on it saying that don't panic, the airliners will bring it here from abroad.

It's a perfect first world problem and will be self-rationing as airlines put the cost of flights up. It's clearly bad, but it's not life-threatening.
Unlike the shortage of fertiliser which is a potential problem for the whole world, especially the poorest. The issue with fertiliser is that it will affect crop yields, and food availability, well after the crazy orange one stops what he's doing.

Shame we allowed the last 2 ammonia plants to close in the UK and we are down to one fertiliser plant. But hey, our CO2 emissions have dropped.

Take the train instead of flying for short haul? I do Paris to Geneva regularly on the tgv - 3hrs and a much better experience.

I do not go back to the UK often but Brasov to Luton is 4hr. Just checked for fun. To London by train 32 1/2hrs with 5 changes.

Obviously I dont want this, but objectively, motorsport does seem kind of mad to keep going if they are actually going to run out of fuel for airlines.

Am I allowed to feel smug at having booked the Plymouth to Santander ferry to get to my holidays in the Basque country in 2 months time?

I may not feel so smug as I'm vomit over the side in the Bay of Biscay a few days before doing an Ironman. hehe

Simply impractical for me. Fortunately, not my problem if prices go up.

Simon Calder ( travel guru ) on the radio this morning was saying only 23 % of UK aviation fuel comes from the gulf

He said he though it would lead to flight consolidation and gave an example of easyJet having 8 flights a day from Luton to Nice ( iirc) and said it would likely mean they'd only fly 6 and all passengers likely to be accommodated on the 6 flights

He said more issues for people looking to book last minute holidays as availability might be restricted due to reduction in seat numbers

But overall he didn't seem that concerned

I've booked a sailing trip this summer - hopefully there'll be enough wind so I don't need the engine....
