Open University Student Loans

This is part of an email that I have just received from the OU.

"From January 2027, the government is introducing changes to student finance. As part of this, Tuition Fee Loans won’t be available to those aged 60 or over."

If you start a course this September then a loan will be available for the duration of your course.

Cool story

Sensible...Googling suggests OU courses typically end up taking 6yrs. Start at 60, get your degree at 66 (Maths degree ). Then what?

If you want to do courses that late in life, great. Fund it yourself. If your life experiences to date aren't sufficient to become a rocket scientist then an OU degree isn't going to see you top of the CV pile. Meanwhile the govt (ie other taxpayers) will likely stand no chance of getting any form of return on the "loan".

On this sort of thing I don't know why they don't simply slam the door on it immediately.
