Migrant Care workers bring in dozens of family members into the UK, despite new rules.

https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/2225958/migrant-...

Shouldn't this be the headlines and not Trump and the World Cup?

There's no evidence that workers are bringing in dozens of family members. As the article says some/most/all of the family visas may be for previous arrivals.

That being said I thought there were income requirements in order to be able to sponsor somebody (£29,000 per annum?). Also they're not entitled to any benefits AIUI

Why would Trump and the World Cup not make headlines?

Weird.

Until they get ILR at which point they will become fully entitled.

The Home Secretary is trying to delay this but facing a great deal of opposition from the rest of her party.

AIUI it takes a minimum of 5 years of continuous employment before they can apply for ILR (so it's not a case of landing at Heathrow and then rocking up at the benefits office)

I agree with extending the 5 year threshold, maybe to 15 years.

It would probably be wise not to put a definitive marker on it.

A "minimum of" would be sensible, but the rest could probably be dependent on other factors being met (earnings etc).

Seems fair.

The fascist in me thinks countries like the UAE have a great system (You work and then you leave). The liberal in me thinks "If youve paid your taxes for 10+ years and done a job that nobody else could or wanted to then maybe you're entitled to live here in your old age"

Article said:
Just 12 health and care visas were issued to workers from Cameroon last year but a total of 180 visas were issued to family members from the same country in the year to March.
The 180 family members are not necessarily related to the (much needed) 12 care/health workers.

A bad faith and populist conflation from the Express to catch the intelectually challenged average "patriot".

Would this not be filed under another 'Brexit win'? AKAIK EU migrant workers were far less likely to bring family over with them.

Lol!!! That's actually what a Labour bloke said on a video I saw last night about the boat lot! He was on GB News talking to Michelle Dewberry and that's what he opened with. He said it and she wasn't having any of it!

Stupid article in the Express. Best advise is to get your news from another, more reliable, feed.

With a local care home charging £2200 per week for bed and board someone is trousering mega-bucks, perhaps there would be no need to sponsor Cameroonians, their meemaws and in-laws if they advertised locally for full-time care workers and paid a decent hourly rate.

Clearly anything but the Express. Did you read the article and identify the conflation or did you just jump to the conclusion they wanted you to reach?

I'm guessing 2200 pw must be nursing care. And yes, some do make mega-bucks.

The company I worked for sold for £5.2Bn (yes Billion).
