Beefeater and Brewers Fayre sites closing

Apparently Whitbread is restructuring it's business so all Beefeater and Brewers Fayre sites will be closing on the 10th of September.
Possible loss of up to 3800 jobs.

Most of the ones near me "closed" ages ago.
They were all ones that were attached to Premier inn's they changed them so you could no longer walk in and could only use them if staying at the hotel and becoming the hotel restaurant exclusively. (haven't been so don't know if they still served all meals or just did breakfasts)
I understand these are the stand alone ones that remained open to the public .

Because clearly a private business has to blame government....I live only a few hundred metres from a Brewers Fayre. It is really run down, drinks cost a lot compared to local pub down the road, food has always been the 'frozen chips' end of the market - the only reason it is even vaguely still open is being attached to the Premier Inn...
Generic food in generic eateries attached to cheap hotels. In recent decades I have only ever eaten in a Beefeater when it was attached to somewhere that I was staying at on a work trip and I'd not have time to go anywhere else.
Do as many people still travel much with work nowadays?
I do remember sometimes going to a Beefeater pub in the 1980s with my parents. It seemed ok to me, as a child, at the time -steak and chips and a choice of desserts, what more could I have wanted?

I think a lot of Beefeaters were formally Benii Inns. Fond memories of those; when I was a kid we went weekly, and they seemed the height of sophistication.

That sounds quite amusing to me now.
We must have cut quite a dash as we pulled up outside in the Cavalier.

As per my comments on the other thread.Nothing to do with government and everything to do with a particular investor wanting to see value released from the freehold estate.
It's absolutely a free market thing and nothing to do with pesky troublesome socialist types.
I’ve had to eat in a number of these over the years usually because I was put into a. Premier Inn by my employer for work.
The food was always generic and I always thought I was glad I wasn’t paying for it personally. None of them will be a great loss, they were pretty much set up for people travelling for work who were claiming meals on expenses so would tolerate lower quality.

And if they do travel for work: there's a much wider choice of restaurants/cuisines now, accessible by Uber in-person or Uber Eats for delivery. You're not tied to the hotel restaurant because you don't know a local taxi service or takeaway.Do as many people still travel much with work nowadays?
