These particular scumbags can rot in prison as far as I'm concerned, however...
The issue is that only a net increase of 482 prison places were provided in 14 years of Conservative government, at a time when sentence lengths were increased and we sent more to prison.
the prison system is at 97% capacity, and if early release for some offenders is not implemented, there will be nowhere to put new prisoners,
Some categories have been excluded already including sex offences, grooming, domestic abuse and terrorism. There is a strong case to reject it for these (manslaughter?), but there will be an equally strong case for others next week and the week after.
The emotional argument is to keep them locked up, and I'm all in favour of it, but it's not as entirely straightforward as the media are suggesting.

Talking about the early release scheme exemptions, he added: “We wanted to go further. We couldn’t."
Of course they could. Making police killers exempt from the scheme would not make a huge difference to numbers.
