Disclosing confidential information held by, or on behalf of, Government is misconduct in public office, what else would it be?

The fact it is was asylum seeker's addresses is irrelevant, the offence is no different to giving away anyone's address without permission of authorisation.

Yeah, I really don't get why that information gets released before anyone is convicted. People are innocent until proven guilty.

At least they omitted his phone number

Police look like they'd rather be somewhere else.

Police civilian support staff are public officers so as you say. Knowing the CPS they may well be holding him on that charge to put pressure on for a guilty verdict on a lesser offence.
I would think his lawyer would forward a public interest defence especially if before a jury.

Thank you.

I didn't know what else it would be but I didn't realise it would be that.

I assumed that's quite a "heavy" offence - and quite rightly so given the absolute thuggery we saw.

How would it be in the public interest to place people at risk?

And probably quite the difference between sharing on Facebook in a "watch out, may be pedos" way, vs texting addresses to "stabby dave" the neo-nazi.

If the latter, further charges to follow, id say.

To stop John Smith of London Road having his windows smashed when the person arrested was John Smith of Church Street.

I include releasing names of accused as well. Plenty of countries just refer to aliases until convicted.

The BBC said:
Norfolk Police said the charge was in connection to the "release of information relating to a number of addresses in Thetford, which were later targeted during several nights of violent disorder in the town".
if you were one of the people in those houses you might take a different view.

Why?

It's a serious act stealing someone's private information for your own purposes.
