Notting Hill Carnival weekend. Now re branded as Carnival.

The annual get together celebrating Londons cultural diversity.

I went back in the 90's but it seems less Carnival and more music systems now.

Plenty enjoy it but generally not the locals as the areas changed beyond all recognition and largely gentrified now.

Anyone going?

No need to attend the NH Carnival as I felt the carnival vibes almost every day during my 10 years stint living in Tottenham back in the 90s

The article states "overwhelmingly", not "all".

Good so far given the scale, but there's still today to go.

Those numbers are wrong the actual number of arrests within the carnival footprint was 243

How do the stats compare to a normal BH Monday or in fact to a normal Monday?

560 arrests and one death reported as of 8pm last night (32 up on last year)

Arrests included one man with a loaded firearm

Death appears to be a male who entered a canal having been chased on foot by Police in the carnival area

Interestingly (to myself and fellow arithmomaniacs) there were:

560 arrests out of 2 million people at Notting Hill = 0.00028
31 arrests out of 110,000 at Unite the Kingdom = 0.00028

An almost identical rate at both events. About one per 3,500 people.

So, maybe we should be arguing about police bias rather than which event is inherently more criminal?

Thats way too mich. 20x wembley stadiums. In a few streets. No way.

I know one of the metrics they use to guestimate event numbers is the amount of litter, but that is still not 2 million people. Even half that would be too many. 2 million attending a single event would bot very noticalbe elsewhere- wuieter roads for example.

Yes it's usually Police bias when they arrest the ones you tend to align with.

NHC Takes place over three days, the figure quoted is total attendance over that time frame

I always just think of that poor bloke from years ago who lived on the route, talking about the sheer volume of urine that was deposited on his front door, seeping under etc, the smell. Absolutely disgusting
