Discussion
Just when you think people can't sink any lower along comes someone and says hold my beer. I cannot comprehend that someone would do this.

No words
C'mon, let's try some words: 12 Slovakians living in one house in Sheffield, England,
in this house a new born baby was found stabbed to death.
Words you'd never have read in a UK newspaper in 1996.
May it's little soul rest in peace. Poor thing

We dont know that the people at the property are "slovakian" its just a "casual suggestion" from a resident and really the wail shouldnt publish stuff like that. Whatever has happened its a really sickening situation and very odd that there didnt appear to be anyone pregnant living there.
Well, the names are out.

Nina Horvathova, aged 37, of Holywell Heights, Sheffield
Peter Horvath, aged 38, of Holywell Heights, Sheffield
The 15-year-old girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons
A cursory google of the older man shows a Peter Horvath from Sheffield was "wanted in connection with several incidents including threats to commit damage, criminal damage, stalking, assault and residential burglary" a couple of years ago.A fifth person, a 15-year-old girl, has also been charged with perverting the course of justice.

It's one event. It doesn't say anything about the country as a whole. Get a grip.
ked. Just reading the report I felt like crying. I really don't know where we are going socially or financially anymore as a country. Let's get back to the good old days, like in my youth, when people never got stabbed, and certainly babies and infants were never, ever murdered.
A 12-year-old was beaten and bled to death when his penis was cut off - must have imported the knife from Slovakia - and his body dumped in a public toilet. It merited a paragraph and a half in the local paper I worked for at the time. No arrests that we were aware of. So back before 1966 or so.
My father witnessed two lads pursued by a mob of a couple of dozen. They were captured and almost dertainly killed according to my father. He tried to intervene and had his fingers broken by his hand being placed in the gutter, his fingers on the kerb, and then stamped on.
No mention of the murders in the papers. Halcyon times. So back to 1938.
Get a grip. This is an horrific crime. Horrific crimes have happened for years.

Nobody is saying horrific crimes haven't always happened. It just appears that horrific crimes are happening more frequently the last few decades.A 12-year-old was beaten and bled to death when his penis was cut off - must have imported the knife from Slovakia - and his body dumped in a public toilet. When younger, you would always hear on the grapevine about a stabbing or someone getting filled in.
You just never used to hear about folk being beheaded in the street or organised grape gangs operation with impunity. You know, the kind of crimes that mostly happen in run down, 3rd world lawless s
tholes. Or am I just imagining this?

I honestly have no words. This, and similar events, are now a regular occurrence in this country. Crime has and will always happen like the two idiotic examples above illustrate but it will only get worse as sadly people like you are willing to accept it. STe_rsv4 said:

It would be interesting to see the statistics based on population size. There is clearly a perception that things are worse these days but how much of that is really about speed and access to news and social media capability to spread stuff whether true or not. Creating fear through perception of safety etc is just as much as a weapon as a knife or a gun and whose agenda does it serve to constantly point to "the people not like us" when something is reported. Indeed - a cursory search of newspaper archives brings up page after page of baby and child murders - most got no further than the local papers.A 12-year-old was beaten and bled to death when his penis was cut off - must have imported the knife from Slovakia - and his body dumped in a public toilet. If you look at homicide you will find, with the except of specific events, the number has been very stable. When younger, you would always hear on the grapevine about a stabbing or someone getting filled in.
