I'm confused.

Like many others I am deeply saddened that this tiny mite has been taken, but after reading the article I have to wonder why there is no suspicion of foul play? Given the placement of his remains.

In view of the tragic events I dont want this to become a typical pile on argument, but im genuinely confused by it. Anyone have any meaningful light to shine on it?

I'd assume the Police have looked into it and simply don't see anything to indicate that.

I don't know what the "decision point" is for lack of a better word but if everything you have points towards "tragic accident" how far do you go trying to suggest otherwise if nothing suggests it etc.

If you read the article it's perfectly clear

Elsewhere it's reported the relative looking after him is elderly/older and saw him make off and went after him but couldn't catch up with him and lost sight of him

I do think you are trying to see something that just isn't there

I assume because a small child might run off and could easily fall into a pond/lake/river etc and....... It's f***ng awful though and makes my stomach turn,not least because I have a daughter who would run off given half a chance..

Years ago as a kid I remember going on a family picnic in the New Forest. Set up next to a small stream, nice hot day, kids paddling around, etc. The next minute I remember someone screaming and everyone turned around to see one of the younger kids (maybe 4 or 5) a bit further upstream, who had slipped off the bank and landed face down in the water. Thankfully one of the adults charged over and leapt in and pulled him out and he was fine, all over in a matter of seconds.

The scary thing is it happened so quietly, hardly a splash. He was only perhaps 20 yards away from the rest of us. If it had been a bit further away round the bend no-one would have noticed.

How does that indicate foul play?

I was occasional volunteer for local mountain rescue team as someone with professional qualification in and access to all sorts of boats and canoes. I was involved in two searches for people last seen at lake or river, and one for a (99.9% likely) body having been seen to get into a flooded river and we were searching two days later. Every time policy made it clear we were searching the bed of the lake or river, particularly among roots etc that 'trap' people.
None of the searches had any indication of any foul play.
