A transport chief who cost a council £200,000 despite the salary for the job being £50,600 is to have his contract ended "at the earliest opportunity".

James Duncan makes a weekly commute from Scotland to work for Bournemouth Borough Council in Dorset.

He is employed through through the agency Penna plc which charged the authority £206,000 between January 29, 2008 and 1 February, 2009.

Bournmouth Boro Council must be run by a bunch of incompetent idiots. What's the betting this isn't an isolated case and there are other public bodies doing the same.

I wouldn't mind as much if the traffic/parking situation in Bournemouth wasn't such a complete fk up of Brownist proportions.

A bit unfair on the guy for this to suddenly come out. It's not as if it wasn't going to have been agreed up front. Just shows how stupid these elected committees can be.

Agree something crazy and then seen to be doing something about it 'at the earliest opportunity', aren't we great for solving a massive overspend - er no, you started it in the first place!

I bet you're not wrong. It's the fkwits that actually let this happen that need to have their contract "ended at the earliest opportunity", too.

So pretty much the whole local government shebang then?

Question is, if all local councillors etc disappeared tomorrow, would anyone notice?

My money's on NO.

I did have to laugh at my latest Bournemouth Council tax bill. Up something like 3%, then at the bottom a statement that they have managed to save X amount last year by being more efficient....
