Disgraceful. I think the Italian government should be taken to trail for mass negligence and directly causing the death of 90 people.

It's just another example of how governments worry about profit, control and power more than the people they are put there for.

When will the people learn?

True, but the implication was on several levels. Generally governments never listen to scientists when what they have to report will impact order and therefore control/power/profit etc. Also, what's the point of funding Earthquake prediction projects, when they don't care to listen to the predictions?! A day or of panic/evacuation versus 90 lives? Can you ever justify a lack of action?

Apparently Guiliani measured the radon levels which were elevated and a sure sign of a highly possible eartquake. This method is approved especially by the Vesuvius Observatory chappies, who are waiting for the Naples catastrophe when Vesuvius next blows its top!!
Absolutely criminal when a burocrat stops a scientist telling people about a high probability of an earthquake; the idiot mayor should at least be impeached if not charged with manslaughter through misuse of official powers!
(PS I live in an earthquake zone and have a govt. radon measurement unit in the cellar, as do quite a few houses here!)
