A lot of big crashes lately, are airlines penny pinching on maintenance or what is going on.

Wait for the buck to be passed.

Bad either way for the passengers.

Safety is very expensive.

Alternatively, it was part of a a covert Iranian government operation to give them a legitimate excuse to invade Kuwait and take their oil

just pre-empting the resident PH tinfoilhatters

Looks like it went in at fairly high speed. All that's left is a smoking crater.

It never ceases to amaze me how little is left of the structure of an aicraft after such an impact. A few large, dense bits (engines etc.) and a lot of metal confetti. frown Without wiching to be overly ghoulish, I imagine the remains of those on board are in a similar state. How awful.

I saw on the news ticker that the politicisation has already started - some creature of the theocracy has already been quoted as blaming US sanctions for restricting the availability of spare parts. Which is odd, given that this was a Tupolev.

Compared to Iran, the Internet seems like a conspiracy free zone.

Great aint it, the Air france thing crashes and 24 hours in, there are 30 odd pages!! Iranian jet crashes and there is 10 replies!

So that means that Iranians are about one 70th as important as EVEN the French.....?

More likely that this was an Iranian run Russian built plane & the other was an AF/Airbus thing. Very few if any of us are likely to fly on the former whilst many could/have flown on the latter.

The relative disparity of the safety records of the two airlines and the two aircraft manufacturers also makes the most recent incident somewhat less "surprising" than the other one.

Sadly, I think there is some truth in that statement!
