We create millions of artificial clouds all the time - they are called contrails.

It does indeed, nothing like free flowing government money to bring out the entrepreneurs. Of course a slightly different type of green is probably on their minds.

Considering that water vapour is by far the largest factor in all models of global warming and greenhouse effect (if they actually exist), how the fook do these idiots at the Royal Society think they're going to REDUCE a greenhouse effect??? They'd just increase it ..... kin idiots!!
Mind you the fact that the dumb taxpayer would be expected to foot the bill is reason enough to do this hare-brained scheme. I bet MonbiGot has something to do with this idiocy!

And how much energy and resources is it going to take to build and construct 1900 ships just for this purpose?

It'll never happen, it's just a few whackos spouting more rubbish.

I doubt that the airline industry. air traffic control or the military would be keen to know that there were 1,900 uncontrolled devices floating around in the atmosphere.

Now, a system like this MIGHT be usful on a planet like Venus.

Not to mention the 20,000ft of hosepipe dangling off the bottom of the cloud ships into the sea.

Whatabout the mathematics of getting the water from the sea into the sky - if the pipe is 1 metre across, and the airship is at 20,000ft, then that's in excess of six thousand tonnes of water (isn't it?)

Finally, if you block out the sun by creating clouds, then surely that reduces evaporation of sea water which means less 'natural' cloud, which would mean more need to create artificial clouds.

I was wondering that as well...how high would these clouds have to be in order to reflect radiation back into space, as opposed to trapping it in the lower atmostphere?

I think you're thinking too sci-fi here and not reading the article properly. The ships are sea based.

article said:
A wind-powered fleet of 1,900 ships would criss-cross the oceans, sucking up sea water and spraying it from the top of tall funnels to create vast white clouds.

25 years is way too late anyway. Porridge and Pwince Charles say that we only have 93 months now to save the world.
