Swallows and Amazons
Discussion
Ended up watching part of this classic film on Saturday morning, it having been one of my favourite films as a child.
It’s amazing just how blind and ignorant we are as children. I used to think that this story was about a group of children who go away on holiday with their mother, as the father is working too hard to join them and end up have an excellent time sailing around the Lake District.
I know realise that it is a horrific tale of bad parenting, law breaking off-spring and a paedophile.
It’s amazing how 12 years of Nu Labia and a declining quality in media can change things.

Too true and amazing how quickly the gullible public has swallowed the socialist creed and all their lies without even blinking...!!!! what are the odds on these numbskulls voting Broon and his crims in for another term?

Even by late Primary school in the early-mid 80s when I read them they were excruciatingly twee.
Don't ever recall a paedophile though?!?
You know the saying...if you don't know who it is, it's probably you...!Don't ever recall a paedophile though?!?
Only joking ;-)
In all honesty by the age of Seven I was more interested in the covert reading my Commando comics during the class reading of Swallows & Amazons.

And ( IIRC ) not a life jacket in sight, kids cooking on an open flame, kids sailing boats unsupervised, meeting charcoal burners who haven't been CRB checked, etc. etc. - an H&S nighmare
Films like this must be banned as they show today's kids how much fun we used to have
And have you seen The Railway Children? Young children playing on railway linesFilms like this must be banned as they show today's kids how much fun we used to have

I got a rather nice postcard and signed photo from Jenny when I was out in dusty places. I had a huge crush on her when I first saw 'The Railway Children'...

Don't mention 'Walkabout' - now that was a seminal work if ever there was one!
That's the one where two kids drag some poor local into the outback and then kill him?
