Energy Drink Co. learn an economics lesson?
Discussion
When Relentless Energy Drink first came out, they offered a 400ml (I think) of energy drink for about what you paid for 250ml of Red Bull (£1.50 or so) and their marketing tag line was "No Half Measures".
Fair enough.
Give it a few months and apparently they've either:
a) cottoned on to how glib the energy drink market actually is or
b) realised that people didnt want a gallon of sickly tasting s
te, they just wanted a "supposed" blast of energy.
As a result, they are now selling 50ml "shots" of some sort of energy drink, placed much closer to the point of sale and costing £1.99. That would put the value of the old cans at sixteen quid!
FFS. Who falls for this s
t? Im embarrassed to be part of their target market.

I would be embarrassed walking into a shop and buying a shot of energy, the mere fact i have managed to walk into the shop shows that im awake and still alive.
What are they for anyway, its not like people will drink one at 7am then sprint the whole way to work avoiding the morning congestion.

Seems to be a Relentless-branded version of "5 hour energy" which has been available in the US for 5 years or so: http://www.5hourenergy.com/ I quite liked them but they never made it over here.
It's not a bad idea, drop all the sugar and the need to have a piss an hour later and just have the caffeine.

Relentless is great for the price, roughly the same cost as Red Bull, but 2x as much. Only thing is once you open the can, you've got to finish half a litre of it.
I haven't tried the shots, they are hugely overpriced, and i was a little astounded to see the display try in a cheapo cornershop missing a few, so someone must have decided it was a better bet than 2 scratchcards.

What they have done it concentrated a cans worth into a shot. Probably more than a cans worth. Its a good idea. Who wants to drink half a ltr of that fizzy pissI haven't tried the shots, they are hugely overpriced, and i was a little astounded to see the display try in a cheapo cornershop missing a few, so someone must have decided it was a better bet than 2 scratchcards.

They're obviously doing something right given what the energy drinks market is worth.
I am pretty sure that the 'they' in question is actually Coca Cola. Relentless seemed to burst onto the scene from nowhere, but it was only when I was reading about their sponsorship of the TAS Suzuki team that I saw that it was a marketing name for Coke's energy drink. I would imagine that this is how they can afford to go toe to toe with Red Bull.Dare2Fail said:

There are dumpsters full of cold Red Bull (original, sugar free ? and the cola) all over the place but the RB staff go for the bottled water mostly.
