Conversation between Phil and a greeting party at an airport...

Greeter....How was your flight, sir?

Phil....Have you ever flown?

Greeter...Yes, sir

Phil....Well, it was like that

Legend.

While visiting the Caribbean:
You have mosquitoes. I have the Press.

Chatting to a Scottish Driving Instructor:
How do you keep the natives off the booze long enough to get them through the test?

On receiving a gift in Kenya:
You are a woman, aren’t you?

Talking to students who visited Papua New Guinea:
You managed not to get eaten then?

On a trip to the Caymen Islands:
Aren’t most of you descended from pirates?

Discussing arms control:
A gun is no more dangerous than a cricket bat in the hands of a madman.

Writing the foreward to a book called “If I Were An Animal”:
In the event that I am reincarnated, I would like to return as a deadly virus, in order to contribute something to solve overpopulation.

On modern society:
Everybody was saying we must have more leisure. Now they are complaining they are unemployed.

Meeting an Australian Businessman:
Do you still throw spears at each other?

Visiting Lockerbie 5 years after Pan Am 103:
People usually say that after a fire it is water damage that is the worst. We are still trying to dry out Windsor Castle.

His comments are always meant good naturedly, he just has a poor turn of phrase.

I'm pleased that Mr Patel took the comment the way it was meant biggrin

I'm not sure that quote is 100% correct, I thought it was more like "They'll be banning cricket bats next" after the handgun ban was passed. I could be wrong though.
What ever the quote was it related to the Dumblane shooting and subsequent banning of handguns, my flatmate at Uni was in P7 at Dumblane when it happened and had to lie under his desk as bullets passed through the classroom. He hated the man with a passion and I think he is a fool who highlights how useless the royal family really is. Sometimes it can be funny to laugh at fools but I would struggle in calling him a legend

I disagree. I'd like to think he does it on purpose for his own amusement and to create a bit of a fuss among the press, and in doing so having a laugh at them as well.

Except it isn't. He will sit in his own plane, or at least in the upper class cabin of a plane. The rest of us have to sit crammed with 8 seats+ to a row and no leg room. Perhaps he'd like to experience that before making another smug comment.

If the comment was made between Phillip and Patel and it was taken in good humour, why is it in the news? Who told this story to the press?

My ex was one of those in the school at the time.

She and all her friends who were, think only a retard would then ban hand guns.

So that is not a foolish thing to say.

It is like banning cars after a hit and run accident, fking stupid. Maybe you are the one who is a fool, don't insult someone you know nothing about.

The other thing is that this bloke is 88.

He's a good five years older than my Dad and ten years older than my Father in law.

And both of those two were/are capable of coming out with howlers - in good nature I might add - that through our generation's eyes are highly politically incorrect. This is because during their formative years these comments would have been considered light banter! The world moves on. We don't necessarily.

I had to explain to my Mum that "the in the woodpile" really isn't considered acceptable as turn of phrase any more.

It's a generational thing.

I'd get rid of the lot of them tomorrow.

That said, I do have a grudging respect for anyone who plainly just doesn't give a fk what you think of them.

I try to be like that, but I'm ultimately too thin-skinned.

Fair play to him - he's had a great life taking the piss out of all of us.

You obviously didn't see the BBC documentary on him, he is far from a fool and is in fact a very smart cookie with all his marbles and by no means a the old fool he's portrayed ss in the press. The insight into his life and how he has carved out a role for himself in the runing the whole of the Queen's estate was fascinating.

Wow, is he really that offensive to you! He's and old man - who I personally think is very sharp witted and knows exactly what he is saying most of the time - and is the essence of British eccentricity and I salute him for that.

Oops sorry I guess I can't say 'Britishness' as I guess he is seen as antiquated and his views are not multi-cultural enough these days..... rolleyes

Well I like him anyway.

I like the old goat, I think he's class and the fact he can say 'politically incorrect' things is a breath of fresh air.

Phil is great.

That's what the royals should be like. The thing is he doesn't appear to offend anyone, people seem to love his comments.
