Can't see anything in the PH forums, and this is News related more than Sport:

Why did he mention he was JT's dad? What a stupid plonker.
I know they were already 'onto him' but they probably only found out because he told someone else who told the paper.
Sure, it seems like he wanted to be caught out.I know they were already 'onto him' but they probably only found out because he told someone else who told the paper.
Shades of Ronnie O'Sullivan's challenging family life - it's sad whenever this happens but in a surprising way when you see both parents of highly talented sports personalities getting in a lot of bother when familial wealth isn't a problem. Not a parallel in every way though:

Does ANYONE believe stuff printed in NotW, the Mirror, the Sun, the Star etc. If so MORE FOOL YOU.
Some stories may become true, most won't. I'd wait until you hear something concrete.
These papers make up stories all the time to sell to the gullible.
We have the most draconian libel laws in the world. People even travel to the UK to issue libel writs because of the size of the pay outs here. I'm not saying that the tabs don't make stuff up but there is nfw that News Internationals lawyers let a story like this run unless it can stand up. Some stories may become true, most won't. I'd wait until you hear something concrete.

They'll also use legal "get-out" terms such as "allegedly", "sources tell us", "it's suspected that", "we have reason to believe" and so on....
Regardless, I'm not saying the story isn't true but the source is is never one to rely on. It's needs verification from broadsheets, the courts, TV news and so on.

What has clearly happened here is that the NOTW has received a tip off about Terry Snr and have set out to prove the tip off correct and having done so have printed the story. To make up a story like this would open them up to huge libel damages, even bigger costs and censure from the PCC. I repeat, there is nfw that NI lawyers would permit a story like this without being satisfied as to it's veracity.

Do you therefore believe everything the Sun (well, NotW which is the Sun on sunday I believe) prints?
Again I'll say, it "may" be a true story, who knows. However I will not assume it's true because some tabloid printed it.

OK. "They print these sort of stories all of the time". Name some stories where the NOTW has made allegations of serious criminality against a well known person which have been found to be totally untrue.Do you therefore believe everything the Sun (well, NotW which is the Sun on sunday I believe) prints?

In 1987 the Daily Star was sued for libel by Jeffrey Archer over the Monica Coughlin story. Archole was awarded £500k plus costs, the case nearly bust the Star and the editor Lloyd Turner was fired. In fact it was later proved that Archole had lied and he was imprisoned and the Star were exonerated. Newspapers, even tabs, do not make up stories like this because the penalties are very high indeed. I'm not saying they don't embellish and certainly they entrap but to invent something like this would be pointless and would expose them to massive financial cost and censure. And Rupe wouldn't stand for it.

I worded the thread title as a question but this strikes me as significantly different to "Double decker bus found on the Moon".
Wasn't it "World War II bomber found on the moon" ? The double-decker was at the South pole,
and then a month later the classic;
"World War II bomber found on the moon, mysteriously disappears "

JT's dad may well be guilty or not, I don't know (nor care), my point is you can never believe what the tabloids say until it has be substantiated. All we have is their story and a video (which for all we know is doctored, made up etc. or even a truthful sequence of events as well), however until I hear it from a some non-tabloids or in the public domain, I'll reserve all judgement.
Justice Eady may be rewriting the law single-handedly (and his time is seemingly running out as more and more of his decisions are being overturned), but UK libel is nowhere near as draconian as it was in the early '80s. Kelvin McKenzie still claims the Sun-Elton judgement was treated as "the costs of doing business".
The issue with Eady is more about achieving censorship. The payouts aren't particularly high (eg. Girpal Virdi vs Daily Mail) so unless it is a very big name the newspapers will still consider running a marginal story.
