Watched the ceremony this morning. Very moving, but Brown once again shows he's either utterly incompetent or disrespectful. He was the only one who didn't bow his head after laying a wreath. All the other Politicians managed this simple task.

I didn't think my opinion of him could get any lower..but it has.

I noticed this too, bloke seems oblivious to any concept of standards.

Showing no respect is worse than showing disrespect.

Did you see him last night at the Royal Albert hall? Seriously... he looked half dead (as normal) at least Camaroon managed to sing the hymns without looking like he was in some sort of bender induced coma

FFS!

I know the man isn't popular, but do you lot really think it was a deliberate premeditated snub on his part?

Sometimes the politics in this place goes way beyond the ridiculous.

It's part of the ceremony. He will have been briefed exactly how he should act. He failed, thereby at the very least, completely incompetent and hopeless under pressure.

All the other Politicians managed it! (It's not gone unnoticed on the armed forces networks either)

No way do I think it was premeditated but I think he is under so much pressure that things like this are slipping through. And if this kind of stuff is slipping through what else is?
I've also never thought that Brown was evil or corrupt (like BLiar). I just think the bloke is so far out of his depth he can't even see the bottom of the pool. Of course this means that not only do none of the people have any faith in him, neither do any of the other world leaders. And he's waited so long for this job that he can't see the best thing that he could do for the country is to step aside.

The recovery in this country will not truly start until the Pickfords van pulls up at 10 Downing Street.

I'm glad others noticed this as well because it stuck me straight away that he didn't even attempt a bow. Even an idiot of the lowest denomination should know what the etiquette is at these events.

The man is a fkwit of the highest order.

I would think at heat (away from politics) he's a decent enough bloke. Maybe it was a slip on his part or maybe it is his way of showing respect. Either way trying to make some kind of political point out of it is even more disrespectful to the war dead of this country.

Your right, nobody should make a political point about it. It's about a normal human being showing respect to others that have fought and died for our freedom.

A very small point that a person in his position and standing.....forgot!

Agree with this, and colonel c's post. Very tawdry point scoring thread.

Respect is about what you're thinking and feeling, not about bowing your head because everybody else did.

Do they have any kind of remembrance celebrations in Germany?

Yes, Yertis. Next Sunday is "Volktrauertag" Originally to remember the deaths of german soldiers in WW1, subsequently widened to include all war deaths/victims of faciscm etc. I don't claim to understand the nuances, but for obvious reasons, it's a delicate subject for gemans, I think.

Last year I also attended some low-key rememberance events for the victims of Kristalnacht.

My personal view is that these events are important, (particularly Rememberance Sunday) and should be fully supported .
