Blaming organisers now - should this be in SPL?

Surely it's the crowd that's at fault - what were the organisers supposed to do confused

They are supposed to provide adequate control for the public's safety, saying it's not their fault is like saying football clubs have no responsibility for the crowds in and around the ground.

Sugababes and JLS? Being crushed to death is probably preferable to having to listen to that!

Bloody hell !

My 18 & 16 year old little darlings were going to go to that, but were put off by the bad weather.

Thankful daddy here

True hehe

Looks quite crazy, I wonder what it would be like to be in those crowds, most men should be OK, only children, old people and women would suffer.

Why were they pushing through anyway, what's on the other side, or were they trolling?

Stupid people rushing to watch other stupid people in manufactured pop bands, who perform for the financial benefit of puppetmasters.

Don't you just love people.

Strange post, my youngsters like those kind of events, because I guess, they're young.

It'll be interesting to see what went wrong, as a dad I'd have expected them to be ok at a "switching the christmas lights on" event.

Quite often have crowds crushed at concerts etc don't we?

Just part of having a whole lot of people in a small space - strange nature of humans.

Based on experience of similar events, you get three types of audience member.

1. the dedicated fans who turn up hours in advance to grab a decent spot
2. the interested passers-by who turn up a little while before it all starts and are happy to watch/listen from wherever they find room
3. the complete knobends who claim to be "XYZ's BIGGEST fan EVA, innit!", therefore feel they have a god-given right to the prime viewing spots despite having turned up 30 seconds before the show starts, and think nothing of pushing, shoving, elbowing etc their way through the already tightly packed crowd, no matter how much mayhem they leave in their wake

A type 1 and 2 can co-exist entirely peacefully. A type 3 just pisses off everyone, including other type 3's.

Even given the most clued-up event security teams and crowd management plans, all it takes are a few type 3's in an otherwise well-mannered mix of types 1 and 2 to start causing trouble. Fortunately I've never been in a situation which turned as nasty as this, but I can readily see how easy one could occur.

I'm with PoD I'm afraid, the kids having fun just don't know any better yet. This doesn't stop them having fun, nor should it - maybe better to say 'immature people watching clever people perform for their own ego and the pockets of even cleverer people'.
