Can't blame them for being suspicious though. Bad though genuine depression is, it's also one of the easiest excuses to use.

People who put things on Facebook which they want to keep private are muppets.

We've used FB to check out job candidates for the past couple of years - if you will post pics and info about yourself you have to expect other people to read and use it.

What happens when mates post those old drinking pics and the ones from the lads trip to Amsterdam etc? Just saying posting pics is daft, mates can foul it up by posting the pics you would rather not have out there for all to see.

People leave their profile open inadvertently, or allow access to other users in certain networks. Don't ask me why.

There aren't any 'lads trip to Amsterdam' pics of me on the net. I don't understand why people in responsible jobs allow themselves to be photographed like this in the first place. My friends aren't the kind of people to post this kind of stuff up either: their jobs could also be affected. I suspect that if you don't understand what I mean then you're probably not in an area where your image matters at all.

Ermm the whole point of the article was that the 'grass' was Facebook itself who in it's t&c's state that it will give out such information freely when asked.

I was in one of those pics, pissed in a bar with my arm around a young lady, posed just for the photo tho', that ended up on FB and my Missus saw it, whilst I was still away working and phoning home saying how miserable I was.

Had a little explaining to do.

Wish I knew this as I could have stopped working years ago. To be honest I need work to stop me being depressed.

Depression or no depression you don't deserve a year off work and disability benefits. I know a couple of people who have 'depression' yet still work everyday...

And if Stephen Hawking can discover black holes then that lazy bint can type a few memo's for IBM.

I suffered from Depression very badly for just over a year.

I must have been one of those benefits cheats...no wait. I didn't get anything.

When you struggle to make it out of bed on a morning and worry about the consequences of going to the bathroom and it having a detrimental effect on your life you think work would be the best way forward.

Just because there are a few people who use depression as an excuse, doesn't mean there are no people who do have depression out there.

You make a fair point. I guess in a job such as a plumber or trader, you won't be surprised to see Facebook pics of a guy on a pub crawl or with his face down some we's cleavage, but if it was a CEO of a blue chip or a counsellor... then again, should it really matter if someone is like that off-duty? Should it really matter if David Cameron or Willie Walsh like to get drunk on a Saturday night in the local as long as it doesn't affect their work? Perhaps it only matters that people think it matters and therefore it matters, which is a bit daft.
