I think if the west took the same approach to industrial crime as the Chinese just have we may have avoided the banking crisis

No, one of them used dubious means, the consequences of which they had little grasp, to over inflate the value of thier product and fill their own pockets. The other put some melamine in baby milk.

No not at all, one had a limited impact and killed 6 babies, the other caused world wide melt down, destroyed thousands upon thousands of lives (and no doubt cost quite a few as well) and the impact will be felt for years to come.

What a pathetic and ridiculous comparison.

These people knowingly poisoned potentially hundreds of thousands of babies for profit.

Some banks simply fked up. They acted within the laws as re-framed by Gordon 'The Twit' Brown at the start of his disastrous spell as Chancellor. They should have been allowed to fail, but The Twit decided he'd rather spend several times our GDP trying to buy a 'success' rating in the history books.

What a load of ill informed lefy right on b0ll0cks.

You clearly understand ZERO about what went on, and you cheerily open your mouth and swallow what the government and the press give you.

Don't worry, the Union Bar will open in an hour and you can go and have a pint and a lentil bake.

Could this go down as the understatement of the century.

Lets imagine the conversation

Bank Exec goes home after hard day at work

Wife: Hello dear, did you have nice day.
Banker: No not really dear, was quite bad actually
Wife: Oh thats a shame, hope you not going to lose your job dear
Banker: Not at all darling, just a simple fk up, thats all.
Wife: Oh thats OK then, so what will happen then
Banker: Oh nothing much, the banks will just go bust and the world economy will go into meltdown. Millions of businesses will go bust, millions more will lose there homes and jobs and it will be years before we recover from the massive debt the world has had to take on.
Wife: That does'ent sound to bad dear but do you think it will effect your bonus this year
Banker: No do not be silly dear, as I said it was just a simple fkup.

I hardly think Chinese token executions for the benefit of their manufacturing reputation (or lack of it) is a good way of dealing with anybody. The two executed probably had less cash in the bank to bribe officials than the others.

I didn't realise the banking fraternity was so well represented on PH. Shouldn't you be off doing 'Gods work' rather than posting on here with ignorant plebs?

You obviously seem to know a lot about what happened. Perhaps you'd care to explain what the bankers actually did? What bankers are actually responsible? High street, fund managers, investment, traders, market makers, dealers?

What really pees me off is the way the press and hence the public have rounded upon the term banker! Ask any layman what happened and why and all you'll hear is its the fault of the 'greedy banker'! Yet hardly any can expand and state what actually went wrong!

But you cant pick and choose bits of a countries approach. You want to kill bosses who mess up are you also happy to run tanks over the heads of students who start gathering together.

And if you do want to...while you may be normal, you are far from suitable to making policy choices for the country.

I really should have put a smillie at the end of my first post, it was meant kinda tongue in cheek.

That said, my business like a lot of peeps has been effected. Also, having spent time working for one major bank (now government owned) it was clear to even the cleaners that they where way over extended and that certain acquisitions where a bridge to far. That said we had no idea of the mess that was at the heart of the problem.

The exec floor did though.

Utter tosh - these people bought it upon themselves, living lives beyond their means and unable to pay back their debt. Of course Winky would have you believe different, you can't win votes by blaming the electorate - and besides, why draw attention to the fact that the former Chancellor took away the BoEs controls on national debt at the start of his term...

Some Bankers may have facilitated it, but that's much like you buying sandpaper from the local hardware shop, and blaming them when you find it doesn't make a good car sponge.

Hesus Titty fking Christ, a website that starts as a TVR forum has a lot of high net worth people. I'd be supprised if a lot of the core members weren't involved in banking in some way.
