Governments at every level (UN, EU, National) are planning to use it as an excuse for more taxation.
Private firms are hoping to profit from the "Carbon trading". Even Bush was in favour when it looked like his mate Kenny at Enron was going to make massive profits. He dropped support soon after, though I cannot remember why.

Any company or individual who is contracted to supply things at a profit and subsidised by the Government.
Take a look at www.eaga.com, for example. They make millions from all the carbon b*llocks.
Large multinationals manufacturing solar panels and other green energies.
Politicians taking kick backs for lobbying and introductions.
It's one massive, massive gravy train and nobody wants it to derail.

Fear is a politically useful, if not essential tool.
The great tyrants of history all used fear and conspiracy to achieve control. The Tudor dissolution of the monasteries and the debate about the freedom to read the bible and the persecution of those who went against the received wisdom can be paralleled with medieval witch hunts and - as famously portayed in Arthur Miller's The Crucible - these in turn can be compared to the McCarthy communist purge in the USA.
Fear subdues, fear justifies, fear controls.
The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Without the nonsense of a conspiracy theory it is perfectly reasonable to rationalise the need for MMGW. It is part of the toolbag for the continuance of traditional western civilisation. We have developed a furmula for governance in the west in the same way as we develop a formula for everything else from etiquette at golf or a garden party to methodology for education or health management. The cry of "whats the form" can be heard from public schoolboy to army officer to Oxbridge graduate. Simply, gubbermint must contain the following elements
People must fear the threat of the end of civilisation
Food must be available to prevent gubbermint being destroyed
Chrisis management must be evident on a day to day basis
People must be made to feel guilty, daily, either through sex and the imaginary freind nonsense or in more imancipated times guilt about carbon footprint or recycling. Its the latest incarnation of an old but essential theme, namely sin.
The daily and routine activity of the majority must be made illegal in order to effect substantial crime elements. (Such as speeding, tv licenses alcohol and drug licenses etc) None of these are needed other than to expand the role of gubbermint.
Modern gubbermint must continue to grow in order to offset the fact that most western economies are bankrupt due to overuse of bureaucracy and lack of added value.
The manifestation of the above must be characterises by the laws of constitution and the rules of social behaviour in order for the political classes to continue.
I am sure there are other ways of summing this up but that is good enough in my opinion and MMGW is just the latest in a long line of management tools opperated by society to control populations. Hopefully one day soon as more and more of the lies are exposed we will be free from it enough to tell the truth. Or perhaps thats too optimistic.
