Borders book shops go pop
Discussion
Sad news that Borders will be calling in the administrators. Always a good place to browse through magazines that nobody else stocks and sit in the coffee shop with a good book

I could never see how they were going to last. They opened a huge store here in a prime location. The overheads must have been massive yet they have to compete with Amazon who have every book at rock bottom prices.

The failure of Borders today would be ironic. It was precisely one year ago tomorrow that the board of Woolworths, the high street retailer, put the company into administration.
How is that ironic? That's coincidence not irony.Keep an eye out for when your local one is closing. I happened to drop into mine for a browse on the day it closed (hadn't realised it was shutting) and anything left over was a quid a pop. Granted most of the stuff I would usually buy like the sports, cars and cooking stuff was gone but there was still a lot of good stuff if you were prepared to hunt for it.

No, no, you see Woolworth did a good range of steam irons and Borders had a small selection of books about steam irons. It's coincidence and irony. The Article said:

Quite like that shop, especially being able to pop in and help myself to the pick n mix just by the door. Oh, wait, wrong one.
