Erm, no. In fact, they'll put the duty up in April as well.

.... will be it return to 17.5% or will be it be higher is a more interesting question I would have thought.

Oh right, good stuff. I'm surprised. Not like them to miss a taxing opportunity. hehe

Definitely, although it wasn't in the handy info I was sent this week, including some stickers to put round the office to remind me to charge 17.5% again. rolleyes

So knocking on for £1.30 per litre of super by the new year then?

That'll see Labour out of office - it's one thing that really affects the middle classes

I am sure it has been announced that for pubs and clubs it will go up at 6.00 Hrs the next day when most are shut to avoid confusion.

HMRC have noticed that VAT increases at midnight on 31st Dec, and that alcohol licences allow for continuous opening (from opening am 31st Dec to closing pm 1st Jan) through this period and are suggesting that the liquor duties change midnight 1st Jan.

so duly party as we get a whole 24 hours of discounted VAT on on-licence booze.

Why none of the dumbasses in HMRC considered that changing it at midnight 31st Dec was a stupid idea rather than midnight 3rd January - at least allowing for reprogramming of tills etc in a civilised time frame.

What will be the formula used to calculate the VAT then? At the moment I use number*3/23.

Cheers.

I paid £142.9 per litre for BP Ultimate Unleaded (99, not 102). This was on Monday night in Bournemouth.
Rubbish eh?

I've just noticed a typo: I meant 142.9p, not £142.9. Notwithstanding my obvious typo, that price is still rediculous but I was away from home with not enough fuel to get back and my car is mapped for 99 RON, so unfortunately I didn't have a lot of options.

Apparently the garage was owned independantly (i.e. a BP franchise) so he could set the prices how he wished. Weirdly normal unleaded was only about 109.9p so I don't know why Ultimate would have SUCH a premium on it. V Power is usually only about c10p more than regular.
