I cannot imagine for a start that things are any better out there, so why have all the news on the country stopped?
Lack of interest or just not newsworthy anymore?

Unfortuantely... you are totally correct... Blair would have sorted this out like a shot if there was Oil / American interest..

Make me livid.

What do you think has changed to make it newsworthy?

It is still in the news (just not mainstream) - the situation is supposed to be getting a little better since the power sharing agreement.

Watch a channel like France 24 and you get proper news and stories. It is a pity but the BBC only pander to the X Factor groupie nowadays.

one of the saddest things I ever read was a few years ago about a vet in Zimbabe who spent her whole time going around putting animals to sleep on farms that had been abandoned...

Think it's about 504/508 on Sky. Have to agree, it's much better than the Beeb/Sky, and the presenters seem to be rather scrummy too!

Well as I understand it the power sharing government has been in place (just about) for 6 mths now, and things are a little better. Allowing the use of other currencies means inflation is under control, and there is food on the shelves. Obviously the power sharing agreement is still very unsteady, and could fall apart pretty quickly.

I'm going on holiday to Zimbabwe (through zim for a week and then into Mozambique). When I booked everything was fine, looking a bit dodgy now! Am off on Thursday - wish me luck!

Where are you going? Most tourist places are absolutely fine (Vic Falls, Kariba etc.), very friendly people. Driving in Hararae is a pain though.

Well, I know someone who has parents out there and she says it is not so bad but still underreported.
When she went to visit her parents a while back she found that she did feel foreign and was watched a lot.

More likely and far more accurately the fact that it isn't the done thing to critisize black African governance, or lack thereof.
